Dad n' Me is a brawler/ fighting game created by Tom Fulp and Dan Paladin, creators of Alien Hominid, in 2005. It is seen by many as the game which popularized flash games, as for its time it was unique as it was very advanced in a genre that was seen by some as primitive.
Design[]
The objective of Dad n' Me is to travel across a level and to beat up any children and bullies who stand in your path. Once a group of children is encountered, the player's progress will be stopped until they have defeated all the enemies in the area. Various objects can be interacted with in various ways. For example, some objects can be picked up and thrown. others might explode when being hit, and there is even an interactive soccer game midway through that can be played.
Gameplay[]
Controls are fairly simple: the arrow keys control movement, the A button controls light attacks, and the S button does heavier attacks. Different keys can be combined to create combination attacks. After dealing a certain amount of damage, the player enters a Rage mode, in which they have new attacks and deal more damage. However, after taking a certain amount of damage, the rage mode is lost.
Presentation[]
Dad n' Me uses Dan Paladin's traditional cartoony style. The only non-human character is the player, who is a purple biped with a white mask. The game's music was made by Dustball. Many popular Newgrounds artists, including Knox, Stamper, Afro-Ninja, and illwillpress make cameo appearances as NPCs the player must fight.

The game has been a great success on Newgrounds, and has had over 16.7 million views as of April 2012, and has an average review of 9.5/10. Even though the game was submitted in 2005, users still rate and review it with the highest grades. The game won the Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice awards. The key characters are amongst the characters displayed in The Gang on the Flash Portal of Newgrounds, and appear in other Flash movies and games, including Toss the Turtle. The game has also received significant acclaim outside of Newgrounds. Flash Game Network, a Flash Game reviewer, gave Dad n' Me a Perfect score of 10, something that only five out of 130 games reviewed ever achieved also becoming the overall best reviewed game on the site. In particular, FGN complimented the combo system, interactive terrain, artwork, and music. The reviewer finishes by saying:
"Dad n' Me is gold. I cannot find a single thing wrong with it."[1]
Dad n' Me also received a major award outside of the Newgrounds community, the "Best Web Browser Game" award from the Independent Games Festival in 2006. Several movies have been based on Dad 'n Me such as: Fatherly Bonds, Purple Sawdust and others.
