The Newgrounds Chat is a system where Newgrounds users can Instant Message each other in a chat room. Before 2007, NG used an IRC chat client, but since the 2007 redesign, that was no longer officially used.
A new official chat was in development by PsychoGoldfish and it would've utilised NG's usernames rather than the person making a new one up. It kept getting delayed and after outrage that it never came out, PsychoGoldfish uploaded a rap song titled "Newgrounds Chat" making fun of the outrage.
The NG redesign of February 6th, 2012 brought a built-in chat to the site, which can be found in both the top navigation bar's "Community" section and at the bottom of the Newgrounds homepage. In 2016, a new NG Chat was developed by then-staff member BrentHeMan.

In 2010, the Newgrounds Radio Chat was used for the Chat link but was later removed because of a request by the owner of the chat.

Current NG Chat[]

The current iteration of Newgrounds Chat (now referred to as NG Chat) was introduced as a part of the Pico Day Gifts leading up to 2016's Pico Day. As of Feb 2024, it is managed by BrentHeMan, and tested by both Chat Moderator Malachy and Icon Moderator Carter Sterling. It is currently a Supporter only feature.

BrenBot[]
BrenBot is a chatbot integrated into NG Chat. Despite being a bot, it is not part of the official set of Newgrounds Bots. It was created by BrentHeMan.
BrenBot supports the following commands, which can be activated by typing "brenbot" at the start of each message (Example: "brenbot gen tank").
- danktarot (dt) - Concentrate on something that's been bugging you, a burning question, or an interesting situation, and I will whip out my mystical dank tarot cards to give you some fun insights! 😄
- gen (g) - Generate an image with AI. help (h) - Sends help on all the commands I support. inspire (in, ins, inspirex, insx, inx) - Let me inspire you or others! The x version is Xmas themed!
- scale (s) - Scales an image using AI.
- tarot (t) - Tarot readings are an absolute blast! Let's dive into the magical world of a three-card tarot spread ✨.
- The first card is like a time machine, revealing all the juicy details about your past adventures and how they shaped your journey so far.
- The second card takes us to the present moment, giving us some wise advice and understanding about what's happening in your life right now.
- And finally, oh boy, brace yourself for the third card - it's like peering through a crystal ball into your exciting future! So put on your thinking cap and let's concentrate together on unlocking these mystical messages! 💫
- urban (u) - Gets definitions for a word from Urban Dictionary.
- weather (w) - Gets the current weather.
The exploit
An exploit was once discovered on Feb 20 2024, that allowed BrenBot to change the font, font colors, and font size of any piece of text within NG Chat. It was patched after a few hours.
